Do you know why I'm so passionate about WebAR? Let me tell you a little story today. I was born and brought up in a small town in India and the first time I encountered internet when I was almost 11 (Well, I'm not that old but internet access was not easily available beyond big cities in late 90s). Such second tier towns across any country (especially developing countries) still face the issue of slow rolling out of technology although they contain the major set of population all the time.
Almost 4 years back, when I started AR journey while sitting in Denmark, my vision was to build an AR experience so easy that most people (especially the biggest chunk of global population) can enjoy that even with limited infrastructure (e.g. low network bandwidth, older smartphones).
WebAR opened the portal for this. I realized that proper adoption of WebAR can open up a whole new horizon of opportunities to these people (I know the struggle of how to get into mainstream of metropoliton culture, coming from the countryside – both for better academics and job searching). That's why I'm so vocal for lawyering WebAR everyday for over last 2.5 years.
Yesterday, I received a recognition from LinkedIn as "𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞".
Writing about WebAR on LinkedIn and trying to improve the world a little bit every day led to this.
LinkedIn Top Voice is an invitation-only group of experts on LinkedIn, which is awarded to 300 professionals each year whereas LinkedIn had 1 billion users in 2023.
It's a great honor for me and I wanted to share the news with you here today.
How WebAR can bring impact beyond big cities?
Education: 3D & AR based learning program can improvise the quality of education by manyfold. This is a proven scientific research. A vast majority of students living in small towns and villages often face the challenge of accesing high quality educational materials and there are millions of them. WebAR can bring an easy and accessible quality eduction for these students, even with telecom infrastructure limitation.
Ecommerce: In a post covid world, a majority of ecomm buyers from all age groups are emerging from mid sized towns and villages. People are getting more used to it. Especially Amazon is playing a vital role here. However, product return is always a cumbersome process and WebAR can play a bliss for these audience.
Advertising & Marketing: Launching super impactful advertising and marketing is a costly affair while the ROI is not always visible directly (especially for print marketing campaigns like posters and billboards). WebAR can help to spread such campaigns to a wide set of audience beyond metropoliton where people can easily enjoy the experience.
Entertainment: In a world of reduced attention, reels are getting more popular than standard videos, the standard of entertainment is getting rewritten everyday. WebAR can set a whole new standard of entertainment where the audience needs not to be limited due to the easy adopton strategy.
Political Campaigns: As strange as this may sound, the reality tells a different story. Using AR political campaigns has already been started in US, Denmark, UK, India and many other countries. The effectiveness of WebAR casts a better appeal to the voters regarding the election agendas. Even Marvin XR empowered the first ever Danish Parliament WebAR election campaign for one of PM candidates.
Art and Museums: Who can ignore the ever lasting impact of a great piece of art? Imagine bringing the piece of art at home as a digital souvenirs and showing them to your friends and families. It could be a great virtual storytelling in a museum with WebAR. There are countless such art galleries and museums which can benefit their audience with WebAR.
Practically the use cases are limitless and imagination is your limit. I do hope that billions of people who are looking forward to be part of latest digital evolution but still get zoned out due to lack of infra development or high cost of device adoption constraints can find a way of freedom through WebAR.
